Vandal

Six-part 60 minute TV adult fantasy crime drama series

LOGLINE
Determined to understand the motives of murderers, a female detective repeatedly travels back in time to re-live the crimes: as the victim.

SYNOPSIS

Detective Vanderburgh is obsessed with understanding what makes murderers tick. Distant and unsettling herself, she has a particularly disturbing gift for identifying the psychopaths who fly under the radar, living apparently innocuous lives that conceal all sorts of skeletons in the closet.

Yet she seems determined to prove that murderers are made and not born monsters, whatever the consequences of her extreme investigation methods. For betraying the trust of a friend, she begins using a prototype time-travel device to jump back in time to just before the murders she is investigating are committed.  Her purpose is not to solve the crimes though; instead, she takes the place of the victims, engaging in deadly games of survival dependent on talking the murderers out of the desire to kill.

But time travel inevitably comes with a high price and Vandal’s pressing personal agenda becomes complicated by Kate, the first ‘victim’ whose murder she prevents.  Curious about the detective who saved her life, Kate weaves herself in Vandal’s frightening, obsessive world, only to find herself caught up in a bigger game of cat-and-mouse as Vandal stalks a demon from her own past while evading the violent attentions of the owners of the time-travel technology.

Presenting a devastating twist on the traditional crime genre, Vandal is an exploration of the premeditation and consequences of murder, and asks whether, if you could change a critical decision in your past, you would – and at what cost?
